Joe’s Shanghai

Joe’s Shanghai

In New York City, Joe’s Shanghai is synonymous with soup dumplings. As you meander your way to your seat, you’ll notice a bamboo steamer basket of xiao long bao, aka soup dumplings, sits atop practically every table. To say that the most popular dish at the restaurant is is the pork or crab meat xiao long bao is an understatement. The restaurant is often credited with introducing the City to the savory Shanghainese dish.

So of course, when we went to the Joe’s in Manhattan Chinatown (they also have another location in the Flushing Chinatown), we had to order a steamer basket of soup dumplings. We got the pork one. We also got an order of the chives pancake.

*Note that it’s a cash-only establishment. But if you’re like me and never carry cash on hand, there is a Bank of America a couple of doors down to the south.

Joe’s Shanghai is located at 46 Bowery, New York, New York
